Travelling to Zagori, a wild region of Epirus, somewhere near the banks of Voidomatis river and having as a background the Towers of Astraka, heading up a cobbled street of Aristi, suddenly you come across “Artsistas Houses” a house complex, built on a smaller scale than the old original settlement of Zagori.
Ten stone houses, overlooking Gamila peak, take you to other eras, to distant worlds, as if time has stopped somewhere there, inside their yards. Each house has its own name, and its own style. Each one is an unexpected surprise and a unique experience. A magical place that preserves its identity, as well as a foreign place at the same time, which makes you a part of it and lets you dream.

The village of Aristi is located in West Zagori and is a reference point οf the triangle Megalo Papigo-Mikro Papigo, Aristi, Vikos and their connection with central Zagori. It is located in a distance of 42 km from the city of Ioannina at an altitude of 650 meters. In the north, flows the Voidomatis river, known as the cleanest river in Europe, with a unique aesthetic identity, being one of the most ideal rivers for rafting and kayaking. In the village square, you will be impressed by the imposing church of the Assumption of Mary with its tall bell tower, as well as by the old fountain and the cobbled streets.

Zagori is an area of more than 1,000 square kilometres, with an altitude ranging from 500 to 2500 meters.
It is a region of rare natural beauty. It’s particular historical circumstances formed a special cultural environment, where the multiplicity of small communities does not negate its unity as a whole. The whole region is emerged as a monument of cultural heritage.
Through outdoor activities that suit all tastes, you will discover that Zagori is an alternative holiday destination where, by observing nature, you will refresh your fitness and your spirit.
To get to know Zagori you must walk, climb up, look far in the distance, get lost in the deserted alleys, smell old smells, observe the colours and the changing of the seasons.
Gastronomy
Zagori, a place rich in flora and fauna, with a wonderful selection of local pies, deliciously cooked local meats and cheeses as well as many unique recipes using the wild greens from the area, the region also, the region has the right microclimate to host a wide variety of mushrooms, rare greens and herbs. Herbs are mostly collected from the Vikos Canyon, having beneficial properties according to the local healers.
It is a place where the traveller can experience a different culture, get lost within a feast of music enjoy their breakfast while admiring the wonderful view, have a meal full of Greek aromas and flavours and a dinner filled with atmospheric sounds, paintings and colours, always reflecting the warmth of tradition, and showing why it is worth wandering, why it is worth making the whole journey.
